Description

BEULAH — Of all the fish that anglers pursue through the ice in Michigan, one of the most unusual species is one of the smallest and least common in inland lakes: smelt. These tiny, slender, silvery fish that live in deep-water lakes produce parties on the ice when they’re cooperating with small shanty towns springing up where they’re found. And while they can be every bit as frustrating to anglers as any other species, they are a riot to catch and are noteworthy table fare.
