Living Sanibel: Mole crab, fiddler crab News, Sports, Jobs - SANIBEL-CAPTIVA - Island Reporter, Islander and Current
Mole Crab Locally, the mole crab is commonly called the sand flea. Most people are probably unaware that this crab exists in staggering numbers right along the edge of the beach where the water laps up against the shoreline. Ranging in size from the quarter-inch-long juvenile to the 1.5-inch female, this small crab is easily overlooked because its camouflaged coloration is almost identical to the color of the surrounding sand. It is sometimes found in groups of thousands, if not tens of thousands.
