A vintage French hand blown glass bait trap, fish trap. A large hand blown bottle with openings at each end to trap minnows for bait. When I was buying this I got chatting to a fellow who told me that when he was a lad he and his friends would make these traps out of champagne bottles by carefully drilling a hole in the bottom. The hole was never quite wide enough so they ended up trapping eels as well which wasn't the intention! They put some rancid lard in the trap to attract the goujons or minnows. Given that this type of bottle sits on a river bed it is in excellent condition - some scratching but no chips whatsoever.
